Scan-to-CAD Reverse Engineering

No drawing, no CAD file, no longer made — if you have the physical part, we can turn it into an accurate, editable 3D model you can modify, reproduce, or hand to a machine shop.

How it works

  1. Send us the part, or we scan it on-site (see On-Site Scanning).

  2. We 3D scan it with a Revopoint MetroY Ultra CMM Edition blue-laser scanner (accuracy up to 0.015 mm as rated by the manufacturer) to capture its exact geometry.

  3. We rebuild it as clean, editable CAD — not a raw mesh — with real dimensions and features you can edit in your own CAD software.

  4. We send back the original part along with the CAD file, and a reproduced copy if you need one.

What you get

  • An editable native CAD file (STEP) that opens in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and most CAD packages.

  • Geometry matched to the actual physical part.

  • A dimensioned 2D drawing, if you need one for a machine shop or vendor.

  • A reprinted copy of the part, if you want one.

When this makes sense

  • The part is obsolete and the manufacturer is gone or won't share files.

  • You inherited equipment with no documentation.

  • You need to modify a part but only have the physical object.

  • A part failed and you need an improved version.

Older and discontinued equipment is a good fit for this service, since replacement parts are often no longer made.

Shiny, transparent, or very dark surfaces can need a temporary matte coating to scan well. If your part cannot be coated, we will talk it through before starting.

Shiny or dark parts?

Yes. Your original part comes back with the CAD file, undamaged.

Do I get my part back?

It depends on the part, so we quote the timeline with the price. We reply to every request within one business day.

How long does it take?

Each project is quoted individually, based on the part's size, complexity, and the CAD work involved. Send us the part or a photo and we will give you a firm quote.

How is it priced?
